Ya put your right foot in…ya right foot out…

Hokey Pokey training. That’s what it’s all about! So happy with what I have been doing with Davis so far. Body awareness and isolating movement…really paid off when I decided to start him off on the skateboard yesterday. In this short first session, not only did he very quickly get the ‘3 feet on-1 off body position, I was able to add some movement in that position. What really pleased me was his ability to offer correct reversal of position on the board. I work hard at attempting to make sure he is ‘balanced’ right and left in ALL his training. Not easy as there are skills that are very tempting to work further on one side, <cough> as in big time reinforcement for handler! ┬áThe skateboarding lesson is shown in the video below. It follows some work we were doing on sit/drop verbal cue discrimination. Haha, I apologize for the camera work čÖü I didn’t realize I hadn’t zoomed out far enough. In that lesson, I am looking for both correct response to cues and also keeping animation and drive in the skills, hence the use of the ┬á‘thinking’ mat. The mat in this exercise ┬ámostly pertains to treibball training and holds no real fine degree of accuracy in terms of placement- just fun! Fine tuning in placement is being worked on in positions in freestyle. More accuracy will come in placement ┬áwith orientation behind the ball. I am thinking of entering him soon in a treibball trial for him in puppy skills. Just gotta keep the focus!

In the meantime, Davis is working on his dancing,  plus puppy kisses and bum wiggles, which is a Border Collie prerequisite and also something I am relishing because Agnes, my other BC does NOT and Never HAS, given out kisses. She is queen of the affectionate body wrap though!
